    Hello,

    02/10/1924 - F/O Colin BOUSFIELD - Bristol F2b J6606 - Ballast shifted, spun in from 300ft, Heliopolis.

Sadly another Bristol Fighter crash at Heliopolis (Cairo) on 2 October 1924 was fatal. The ballast, which had to be carried in the aircraft when it was flown solo, had not been properly restrained; it shifted and the resulting imbalance caused the aircraft to spin in from 300 feet, killing Fg Off Bousfield.

Colin Bousfield had originally joined the RFC as an observer in 1917, he was posted to 14 Sqn in January 1924 and was killed in a flying accident nine months later.

According to the Air-Britain Bristol Fighter book, J6606 was lost with 14 Sqn on 9 April 1923, with the same pilot being named. Given that Bousfield did not join 14 Sqn until January 1924, this would seem to be wrong.
Could another aircraft (and pilot) have been involved on 9 April 1923? One slight complication is that in the list of serials at the rear of the book, the unit is given as 4 FTS.

            Re: RAF fatalities, 1924

Casualty Index on RAF Vault has 02/10/1924 F2b J6606 listed and also provided CoI (error of judgement) and Pilot F/O Colin BOUSFIELD
